Winston’s Fall Scarf
Today’s style post is different because instead of sharing one of my outfits with you all, I’m sharing Winston’s style! We found a new company called Dog’s Best Trend that sends your pup a new scarf once a month. The cool thing about their company is that a portion of every subscription is donated to rescue groups for dogs. They also love to engage with their customers by sharing the photos you take of your pup wearing its scarf on their Instagram page. How cool is that? A Day in the Life of Winston

Every morning, I wake up to Winston whimpering with excitement to start his day! Right away, I put on his harness and leash to take him out. Then, we come inside for our morning breakfast. He loves to eat his breakfast and then play with every single squeaky toy he has because he doesn’t get to have them in his crate. While he’s playing, I’m usually eating breakfast and going over my to-do list for the day.

Since he’s a puppy still, he tires himself out pretty quickly. After playing for about an hour, we go outside for a quick walk. When we come back in, he takes a nap and I get to work. He likes to take his naps on the couch next to me on top of his cooling mat. Living in Florida, it gets pretty hot outside, so he loves his new cooling mat. It was a gift from his cousin, Pippa!

Lunchtime is around one or two in the afternoon. It’s his favorite meal of the day! After eating, he loves to jump from couch to couch while throwing his toys around. He really is a hilarious dog. This is when he usually starts to get bored with me. The morning is over, lunch is over and he’s already had his morning nap. He chooses this time to obsessively squeak his toys. This lasts for about two hours, then he naps until Ryan gets home. He loves Ryan. Winston eats dinner around seven or eight, and then he cuddles on the couch with Ryan until I make them both go to bed! (They are doing this right now as I type.)

Some Puppy Training Tips from a Non-Professional

I count my blessings that I’m able to work from home because, otherwise, I don’t think I would have been able to get a puppy. It takes a lot of work to train a puppy! I take him out at least 12 times a day! So, since I’ve become such a professional on puppy training, I’ve put together some pro-tips for anyone that needs them!

  1. Create and stick to a daily schedule with your puppy. This includes feeding, walking, letting out, play time and nap time.
  2. Feed your puppy three times a day. I feed Winston 3/4 cup of dry food in the morning mixed with wet food. He gets 1/4 cup dry mixed with wet for lunch and 1/2 cup dry mixed with wet for dinner.
  3. Keep a water bowl accessible to your puppy throughout the day. Take up the water bowl after dinner time.
  4. Take your puppy outside to potty several times a day. If you can stick to a specific schedule with eating and bathroom breaks, your puppy might notice and learn the schedule.
  5. Don’t be afraid to spend money on dog food. Your puppy needs healthy and nutritious food just like you and I. Winston eats Blue Buffalo chicken and brown rice dry puppy food and Blue Buffalo chicken wet puppy food.
  6. If your dog has hair like mine, BRUSH him. I brush Winston every other day to avoid matting in his hair. I do this because I don’t want the groomers to have to shave him!
  7. Aside from keeping a schedule, eating and potty breaks—my last piece of advice is to try to crate train your puppy. Usually, they learn to love their crates like it’s their little home.
  8. If you crate train your puppy, leave a floor fan nearby at night time so they don’t get too hot. I’ve also read that it calms them at night.
  9. Lastly, be patient with your little fur baby.
